As if it weren't taxing enough
Kuro5hin features a proposal for taxing advertising. I think networked markets take care of the problem in the long run. Still, an interesting discussion.
One way or more?
Anybody seen the Radio YourWay AM/FM recorder? The promo poop on that page says it's compatible only with Windows, but I wonder if that's actually the case. It has a USB interface, and stores its recordings in MP3. If it shows up as a USB device, there shouldn't be a problem with accessing the files with a Linux or OS X system, I would presume. I kinda wish it had a stereo microphone input; but it has line-in and built-in mike features instead.
I also wonder how it works as a radio.
Ratings vs. power
In the last available radio ratings for Santa Barbara, the most powerful FM station in town, pop music KRUZ/103.3 gets a 3.6 share (tied with three other stations for #7). Public/jazz KCLU/102.3 has a 2.2 share, tied for #9.
KRUZ is one of the biggest FMs in the country: 105,000 watts on top of a 4064-foot mountain. It booms over the central and south coast. KCLU's signal comes from a 4-watt translator on the side of a mountain at 2167 feet. Still, four watts covers town.
I'm just amazed to find noncommercial stations listed in with the commercial ones. Nice to see that after all these years that they've been kept separate, for no good reason.
Re-mail, cont'd
Ross Mayfield has some interesting thinking out loud about social networks and email.
On the other blog...
I'll be guest blogging this week at The Industry Standard. Watch this space for developments.
Of course, I'll still be blogging here and at IT Garage.
