Getting Riverbend straight

In this post I wondered out loud if the remarkable Iraqi blogger Riverbend might be a Saddam sympathizer.

A reader contacted Riverbend and obtained a correction. She is not a Ba'athist, a Saddamist or loyalist, or a religious sectarian. She is secular, and a member of an elite only in the sense that she blogs in English.

If I get permission, I may post her email verbatim.

Meanwhile, I've ordered her book, I congratulate her on her Bloggie, and I wish her luck in the Samuel Johnson prize competition (winner announced on 14 June).

Dateline: Washington P.C.

The WaPo becomes "platform agnostic". When your 63-year-old editor starts sounding like Esther Dyson, you know your newsroom is changing.
